In the middle of the 20th century, a traditional law of keeping the Lord’s Day was still revered. Our times, however, seem to reject many of the good customs and rules that once helped humanity maintain peace of mind. A simple example is the shift toward allowing trade on Sundays. Even the best among us now tend to neglect ordinances that have stood the test of time. According to Trapp, in his Commentary on Ezekiel, “these are all foretokens of a perishing people.” It was the observance of the Sabbath that made it possible for an apostle of great authority, like John, to receive the revelation on the Isle of Patmos. And Paul was confident he would find a group of praying women on the Sabbath by the local riverside (Acts 16:13).
