It is God’s grace that is permanently monitoring us in a way that is not easily comprehensible with human eyes.
A notable example is that of the miraculous fishing of the last chapter of John:
Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. (John 21:5-6).
After this fishing, Jesus asks them to share with him the fish that they caught:
Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn (John 21:10-11).
Although it is obviously by Jesus’ grace that the apostles have caught the fish, Jesus tells the apostles that they have caught the fish. It is them following his command, and Him being in control over the fish. The same is true in the conquest of Canaan. God tells the people to go and conquer the land, because He already gave it into their hands:
And I said to you, ‘You have come to the hill country of the Amorites, which the LORD our God is giving us. See, the LORD your God has set the land before you. Go up, take possession, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has told you. Do not fear or be dismayed.’ (Deuteronomy 1:20-21)
